An architectural competition led to the extension of the Swiss Alpine Club's Hut, Chamanna da Tschierva.The existing stone hut had already been extended so, instead of adding yet another extension, a wooden building jutting out over a vast base wall was designed to complement the original. The view of the mountains and glacier from the new lounge is unique.
The avalanche protection in the new part of the building is afforded by structural engineering in the form of an outer casing of vertical steel supports with inserted beams of larch wood.
